News5/15/2009 9:30 a.m., May 15, 2009Beginning at noon today, a planned outage will take place affecting approximately 630 electric service locations in Perry County. Electric service will be interrupted for Citizens Electric members living along State Highway 51, just south of the Perryville city limits and extending just north of Bollinger County. This will also include those areas within 1 ½ miles on either side of State Highway 51 and the Lake Kah-tan-da area. The power is expected to be out for one to 1 ½ hours. Citizens' crews and outside contractors are finishing restoration efforts today, with only about 80 individual outages remaining. They expect to have everyone who can receive power back in service by tonight unless thunderstorms move into the area before completion. Approximately 10,000 CEC members lost power last Friday when severe weather plummeted the area. More than 100 linemen and tree crews have assisted CEC personnel for the past week rebuilding Citizens' distribution system in parts of Ste. Genevieve, St. Francois, Perry and Cape Girardeau Counties. Restoration efforts have been particularly difficult due to wet, muddy conditions, broken poles, toppled trees and storm debris. High winds and lightning Wednesday afternoon and early Thursday created additional challenges and outages. CEC management estimates more than 300 poles have been replaced due to the storm. CEC appreciates the patience of all of their members during this time. In order to insure that CEC is aware of your outage, members are urged to call 1-800-286-2251, if they still don't have electric service.
