Energy Efficiency Grants Announced

In mid-February 2010, CEC's power supplier, Wabash Valley Power Association (WVPA) launched an Energy Efficiency Grant Program for commercial and industrial members. Businesses served by their 28 member distribution systems in Missouri, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan were invited to submit grant applications with the possibility of receiving funding for up to 50 percent of the cost of their projects.

Entries were evaluated based on projected energy savings, completeness of the proposal, the need for funding, fitting the criteria for a 1.5 to 4 year simple energy payback and the likelihood of completion within 12 months if grant funding is awarded. All references to the businesses' identities were blacked out before applications were reviewed by judges not affiliated with CEC.

The following businesses within CEC's service territory were awarded grants:
1. Perryville Water Plant - $650
2. Perryville Wastewater Plant - $775
3. Perry Park Center - $250
4. Perryville Community Center - $250
5. Perryville City Hall - $500
6. Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital - $2,000
7. T. G. Missouri Corporation - $8,200
8. Southeast Missouri Regional Planning - $1,400
9. Rozier's Country Mart - $5,000
10. Perry County Sheltered Workshop - $18,000
11. Ste. Genevieve Industries - $5,000
12. Ste. Genevieve County Community Center - $125,000

The purpose of the program was to reduce electric consumption in order to postpone the need to invest in additional generation facilities. Due to the overwhelming interest, WVPA is considering offering the program again later this year. Please watch your CEC bill insert and website (www.cecmo.com) for further information.
